Bio:
I was born in Suffolk, England to a British mother and an American father, a product of the 'special relationship' our countries have and the US Airforce bases in my home county. As a result, I had an interesting upbringing moving around the world dependent on where my father's job took us and an odd mishmash of British and American culture that I'm forever grateful to have as a pool of influence to work from.
I grew up with a very natural inclination to the creative world being sucked in by anything visual from a young age, which was further developed by my time spent at the Cambridge School of Art getting my Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Design, with a heavy focus on the Bauhaus movement and European minimalism. I have a great love for stripped back, clean, impactful, high end design and this is what the major body of my work is, though my time growing up creating artwork for local Punk and Indie bands has also allowed me to let out my more raw, bold and fun side. I've been very fortunate to work with a wide range of clients that come to me for both styles.
After completing my degree I made the move from the UK to Phoenix, Arizona where I have had the pleasure of working for Southern Glazer's Wine & Spirits, advertising household Liquor and Wine brands such as Absolut, Jägermeister, Jim Beam, Bacardi and many more. I've also worked for Phoenix centric local businesses, NYPD Pizza as a Graphic Designer and Social Media Manager as well as Grey Flannel Auctions, a sports memorabilia auction house as a Product Photographer and Graphic Designer. My last role in Arizona was as in-house Graphic Designer and photographer once again for Galco International, a Phoenix based holster company. I ultimately left this role due to the brand being severely outdated and not showing any willingness to change.
Most recently, I have made the move out east to Knoxville, Tennessee to work as a MultiMedia Specialist for Qore Performance, compounding my audio, photographic and design skills into one role. Qore Performance is an up and coming brand that provides thermoregulation equipment for both tactical applications for military and citizens as well as cooling safety gear for massive brands such as Chik-Fil-A, Dutch Bro's Coffee, Raising Canes and many more!
Experience
MultiMedia Specialist at Qore Perfomance
March, 2023 Knoxville, TN
My most recent role is as a MultiMedia Specialist at Qore Performance, a high end tactical, safety and sport gear manufacturer focused primarily on thermoregulation technology. As the second most senior member of the marketing team, my job is primarily to protect the brand and insure that it remains consistent company-wide. In addition to this, I design all marketing related materials, manage our email marketing strategy, manage the aesthetics and UI/UX of our Shopify store and handle all other marketing design related tasks at Qore Performance.
Graphic Designer/Photographer at Galco Holsters
August, 2021 – November, 2022 Phoenix, AZ
My role at Galco was to be a ‘Jack of all trades, master of a few’ kind of designer. The graphics team fluctuated in size during my time here due to poor leadership, and so I’ve taken on everything from my primary role of putting together digital and print collateral for our sitewide sales on a weekly basis, to technical illustrations for our holster Product Guides, product photography for white background website images, flat lay and in-use shots, email campaigns and plenty more odd projects, such as Trade Show collateral for SHOT and video editing, as necessary. Ultimately I left due to poor remote management and an extremely outdated, unprofessional culture and work environment.
Photographer - Graphic Designer at Grey Flannel Auctions
October, 2020 – June, 2021 Scottsdale, AZ
Aside from design, a great passion of mine is photography, and following my work at NYPD Pizza photographing menu items, I got another chance to put my product photography skills to use at Grey Flannel shooting everything from Babe Ruth signed baseballs to Shaquille O'Neal's gigantic shoes!
The items I handled and shot range from $25 baseball cards to unique pieces of history that set record numbers in the sports memorabilia industry! Obviously this came with a lot of responsibility, care and requires fine attention to detail when shooting these often historic pieces.
I also created graphics for the purposes of 'photo-matching' items with in-game use images to aid in authenticating them. This requires an extra fine attention to the smallest of details such as loose threads, minor stains, imperfections etc. and photographing items in as similar a way as possible to how it appears in the original image, a job fine suited to my particular brand of OCD!
Graphic Designer - Social Media Manager at NYPD Pizza
July, 2020 – April, 2021 Phoenix, AZ
NYPD Pizza is a Phoenix based chain of restaurants with seven stores across the valley. I was hired to help inject some creative energy into the social media pages, menus and other print and digital material that helped spread brand awareness as well as participating in meetings planning further marketing decisions such as promotions and events.
I also was able to put my photography skills to use shooting menu items in-house as opposed to hiring a photographer, which saved the company expenses and cut out the often inefficient communication between photographer and designer when it came to implementing shot images into designed layouts.
Graphic Designer at Southern Glazer Wine & Spirits
March, 2019 – June, 2020 Phoenix, AZ
My first design job in the states was working for Southern Glazer Wine & Spirits, the largest Spirit and Wine distributor in North America, creating mostly print ads for household brands such as Absolut, Bacardi, Jim Beam, Jaegermeister, Skyy Vodka and many more. These are used all over the state of Arizona at every level of establishment from local dive bars to five star resorts.
I use a combination of the primary Adobe Suite programs, InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator to accomplish this and work with an incredibly diverse range of products for which I’m required to understand their various stylistic differences and present them according to our equally diverse accounts and customer base. This role unfortunately ended abruptly as the pandemic forced bars to close which made up the vast majority of our advertising.
Social media and Design co-ordinator at Riflecraft Ltd.
July, 2017 – November, 2017 Norfolk, UK
An outdoor shooting sports store that specialises in bespoke custom gunsmithing, I was in charge of advertising and social media presence.
This included content selection, design and photography of products.
Freelance Designer and Photographer at AP Design
2014 Suffolk, UK
As a student of design in both College and University, it was critical to work on freelance projects whenever I could.
A wide array of jobs for an interesting range of clients from independent performers and local bands to the US military, I continue to do as much as I can on my own time with every medium I have at my disposal, including my camera.
Education
BA (Hons) Graphic Design at Cambridge School of Art (ARU)
September 2015 – June, 2018 Cambridge, UK
Following College I attended the Cambridge School of Art, having a love for the city and the practical ‘real world’ work of the course. Building on what I had learned at West Suffolk, I advanced into web design, animation, brand Identity, typography and campaign design in addition to refining what I already could do such as photography and illustration.
Working on live briefs from local design studios such as The District and One Space media built my confidence in putting together presentations and selling my ideas to a client. In addition to this, live briefs from big name brands like Sony and Penguin Publishing taught me to identify target audiences and how to best market to various demographics.
UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma in Art & Design (QCF) at West Suffolk College
September, 2013 – July, 2015 Suffolk, UK
I studied graphic design for two years in my hometown of Bury St Edmunds immediately after High School where I was awarded the overall grade of Distinction for my work.
During this time I learnt the fundamentals of the Adobe Creative Suite as well as participating in live briefs with clients such as The SyFy channel, The Mix and Talk Talk mobile. The latter of which I got to the final round of a contest held at CHI & Partners London for my work.
